Few Things Considered
A shocking opinion piece has been published that points out the liberal bias at NPR. This article written by one of NPR’s own editors, documents the transition of a news organization from one that represented the majority of the American populous to one that speaks to only a small subset. This was reported apparently from a standpoint of genuine concern and also presumably with a straight face. Sometimes the satire writes itself. Here is an actual quote from the article published at the Free Press: “I’m Sarah Lawrence–educated, was raised by a lesbian peace activist mother, I drive a Subaru, and Spotify says my listening habits are most similar to people in Berkeley.” This is the part of the article when the author must head off any conflation that criticism of the left is pro-Trump. That’s usually how it’s taken, and the above quote comes from the first paragraph.
To most of us, this does not come as a surprise at all. However, this is a revelation to some who presumably still listen to NPR. During an interview on the NPR show Only Worldview Reinforcing Things Considered, Professor of Clinical Observation and partner in the firm de’Obvious & DeNile, Dr. I.C. de’Obvious said “The idea that NPR is bias and has a narrow worldview is preposterous. I’ve been going to cocktail parties in DC and Manhattan for years and I’ve never heard an opinion that is contrary to my own. Even at the club on Sunday afternoons me and my cohort of coastal elites sit by the pool and drink pink gins and smirk at the churchies as they leave their brainwashing sessions. We don’t need someone to tell us what to do each week, we listen to NPR for a few hours a day. The author if this article is obviously a Trump supporting MAGA authoritarian.”
When asked about the article, Senior Editor of Nonsense at NPR, Jack Kass said: “We are proud of our work to promote a single myopic viewpoint. We embrace diversity and inclusion through exclusion. Why would we speak to the the vast majority of the American people? We just take their tax money and reinforce a viewpoint they disagree with and call them names when they complain. It really is a beautiful system. Diversity is very important to us, unless you have diversity of ideas, then we think you’re just racist. We report on a wide range of stories that challenge us to think critically, or just be critical of our ideological opposites, who are wrong.”
In all seriousness, NPR was always on in the truck on the way to work. It was something that all coworkers could listen to and not be annoyed or offended. Now the only time I seek out NPR is on Christmas Eve when they have historically broadcast A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols from King’s College Chapel. They didn’t even do that this past Christmas, instead it was some political “debate” show. There is nothing left for me there anymore. Trump really broke these people. At the heart of the article is the assertion that there is a narrow world view that is sent out over the airwaves from NPR. This is true and it has been true for quite some time. Siloed in elite circles in big cities on the east coast, there is very little light that shines into their world that is not reflected from some source also within that world. The fact that they are just now finding out about it speaks louder than any self-reflecting opinion article.
